Subject: From The Scouts
I finished the weekend campout with the Troop 135 Scouts this morning. We did a review session to go over the weekend's main event, the Iron Scout Wilderness Challenge triathlon. Both boys and adults were amazed and very appreciative of the volunteer labor that the amateur radio community contributed to this event. In particular, the adults were impressed with how smoothly the event ran, and how we were able to keep track of all race teams and supporting crews. There may be a few Scout leaders who will show up at an upcoming CARS VE session because of this event.
Thanks to Barb Conciatori, KI4VOV; Alex Shimp, WB4BSA; Michael Breese, WY2S, Chris Schwab, N4BSA; Dan Hawthorn, AI4ET; Joe Thomasone, AB2M; Al Hann, K4ALH; Craig Shapiro, KJ4BYK; Mike Pici, KG4IYB; Jim Donnelly, N4FSU and Paul Wilder, KJ4DJI.
Very special thanks to Paul Toth, NA4AR for spending so much personal time coordinating and leading the volunteer effort. Also thanks for designing and developing custom race team tracking software. Thanks Paul!
Additional thanks to the West Central Florida Group (NI4CE) and Pinellas County ACS for providing access to their repeaters as a backup for the CARS system. We didn't need them, but it was very nice to know they were there.
I'm very proud of all the hams who helped with this event. The display of professionalism and spirit in public service is a model for everyone. Thank you all very much!
